About Us

Virgin America, Inc. is a United States-based airline that began service on August 8, 2007. The airline's stated aim is to provide low-fare, high-quality service for "long-haul point-to-point service between major metropolitan cities on the Eastern and West Coast seaboards. San Francisco International Airport is Virgin America's main hub, but the airline also has focus city hubs at Los Angeles International Airport and Dallas Love Field. Virgin America's frequent flyer program Elevate provides award flights and other benefits to frequent fliers.

Virgin America, though the brainchild of British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, is a U.S. airline. By law, no more than 25% of a U.S. airline may be owned by foreign interests and must be under the "actual control" of U.S. citizens; VAI Partners owns 75% of the capital stock; the remaining 25% of the company is owned by Virgin Group, which also licenses the Virgin brand to the airline.

Checked Baggage Allowances

Virgin America and the FAA allow each guest, subject to space availability, to bring onboard one (1) piece of carry-on baggage and one (1) personal item (we call this the 1+1 rule). Carry-on baggage is a small piece of luggage you take onboard the plane with you. This would be your roll-a-board, backpacking backpack, duffle bag, weekender bag, extra large purse (we’re looking at you Neverfulls), gym bag or laundry bag, etc. This carry-on item is subject to a maximum outside linear dimension of 50", for example 10 inches in length inches x 16 inches in width x 24 inches in height, be under 30lbs/14kg and must fit in the overhead bin or under the guest seat
